Klein Oak Literary Magazine Club [Orsôrum]
Mission Statement and Operating Guidelines 2004-2005
The mission of the Klein Oak Literary Magazine Club is to produce a high-quality, competitive literary magazine showcasing selected writing and art from the Klein Oak High School student body.
Club membership is open to all students currently enrolled in an English class.
As this club is product oriented, students must be capable of executing certain tasks required in the production of a literary magazine. Students should possess an interest in the following areas: writing, editing, art, sales/distribution, advertising, page-layout and design. Students should also be committed to a year-long effort with meetings that might increase in frequency as production moves into final stages.
The sponsor/s reserves the right to limit the overall number of participants for the sake of efficiency and production. Any member not dedicated to the purpose of this club may be asked to leave.
Initially, the Klein Oak Literary Magazine Club will meet immediately after school on the second and fourth week of the month. Regular attendance is compulsory or the student will be dropped from the club roster. Committees may be formed and may meet on additional dates, especially as production enters the final stages.
All club members should be willing and able to work on several aspects of club activity as mentioned above. An editor-in-chief will be appointed to oversee and coordinate magazine activities. Coordinators or sub-committee editors may be appointed to assist in meeting deadlines and coordinating aspects of compilation and publication.
Members who have been involved for the entire process of magazine production, from September through May of the school year of production of the literary magzine, will be listed as production staff in the magazine.
About Our Name
The name "Orsôrum" was selected for the name of our magazine by a popular vote of the staff in the 2003-04 production year because this Latin word means "first few words", "beginning", "start" or "undertaking" and it would be the first annual literary magazine every to be published at Klein Oak High School. In the 2004-05 production year, the staff chose to continue with the same magazine name because our first publication will hopefully have set the scene for a tradition of lit mags at KOHS for years to come that we are still really in the beginning stages of.
